California Native American Day, celebrated each year on the forth
Friday of September, was established in 1998 as an official state
holiday to teach people of all ages about the tribal cultures, histories
and heritage of California's Native American Tribes.
Since 1999, the San Manuel Tribal Unity and Cultural Awareness Program
partnering with Cal State San Bernardino, San Bernardino City Unified
School District, San Bernardino County Superintendent of Public
Instruction has conducted the highly successful California Indian
Cultural Awareness Conference over the week leading up to the state
holiday. Over the years, thousands of school children have come
to Cal State San Bernardino to learn the traditions of Native California.
We hope you will join us in recognizing Native American Day by taking
some time to learn a little about events and programs that help
to recognize the contribution of our people to the State of California.
