The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians is a socially responsible governmental entity that strives to be a good neighbor and community partner, dedicated to giving back to society. The tribe has always held a deep-rooted respect for the traditions of sharing with its neighbors and chooses to carry on this tradition of contributing to the extended community. Through its efforts, the tribe strives to build strong communities and assist those in need of support.

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians is committed to improving the quality of life in the community through grants, partnerships, sponsorships, and donations to programs that benefit the common good of our society. To date, the tribe has given millions of dollars to support such programs.

The tribe is committed to promoting the importance of education and culture and regularly supports programs that focus on educating the youth in our communities. Through donations made to California State University, San Bernardino, and the University of California, Los Angeles, the tribe is able to continue its commitment to education and provide students with the opportunity to receive assistance through scholarship programs, endowments, and resources for personal enrichment.

The tribe strongly believes in the importance of continuing tradition and preserving culture. In its efforts to educate the community and pass on traditions to their youth, the tribe actively supports art schools, museums, and cultural organizations and programs. Every year the tribe hosts an annual Pow Wow in an attempt to educate and share Native American culture and traditions with the people in their community. Hundreds of Native Americans from all over the country come together with members of the local community to share in their culture and history.

As a concerned member of the community, the tribe actively contributes to programs and efforts that promote the safety of local residents. The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians continues its support to the local community and actively seeks ways in which to improve the quality of life for others. The following is a list of recent efforts made by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.

  • In 2003, the tribe donated $3 million to California State University, San Bernardino for the expansion of the Santos Manuel Student Union named in honor of the tribe's leader Santos Manuel

  • In 2004, the tribe bestowed a $4 million gift to the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law to establish a Tribal Learning Community and Educational Exchange in support of Native American study

  • In 2003, following the firestorms in Southern California, the tribe made a donation of $1 million to assist with fire relief efforts`

  • In 2002, the tribe made a donation of three fire engines and one HAZMAT vehicle to the City of San Bernardino to assist the local fire department

  • In 2002, the tribe donated ten thermal imaging cameras to various Inland Empire fire stations in efforts to help save lives

  • In 2003, the tribe donated nearly $50,000 to the San Bernardino City Fire Department to assist in the development of a fitness and wellness program for firefighters
  • The tribe also is a sponsor for the San Bernardino City Fire Department’s smoke detector program


The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians is committed to building strong communities through sponsorship of community-based and non-profit groups. The tribe honors the deep-rooted values of its ancestors by sharing its resources for the greater good of the community.
